Configuring Eudora for Vineyard.NET
Eudora Lite (for both Mac and Windows) is a free program. You should expect no help from Qualcomm for the free version of the program. Eudora Pro has quite a few nice features beyond Eudora Lite, costs money, and comes with a manual. I use it. I like it.
That being said...
If you have a Mac, turn on Balloon Help. Most of the features have descriptions attached to them.
Mac, Windows, and Newton people might all want to look at the Eudora home page to see more about their products. There are links for downloading manuals from the Eudora Light page.
- Select item Settings from the Special menu
Getting Started
Your POP account is actually a special address made up of your username followed by the text @vineyard.net, e.g., if your login is "phred" your POP will be phred@vineyard.net
Real name gets whatever you want. This is a comment field and you can type anything in here you wish. Typically folks type in their real name. It is mildly impolite to leave this field completely blank (no one will be offended, but blankness is much like a magazine publisher sending you a come-on without putting a return address on the envelope -- you have to open the envelope and read the message in order to decide whether the content is of interest to you) . Some sort of identifying info is appropriate. Companies might collectively put Staff of Spacely Sprockets. Families might use From the home of the Jetson's.
Personal Information
Return address should usually be left blank. If it is left blank, the same address used in the above POP setting will be used. The return address field is normally only used if you have multiple mail identities and would like reply mail (responses to messages sent from the machine your are using) to be sent back to a different address than your POP address [yourlogin]@vineyard.net (unless you have another e-mail address where you would rather have replies sent)
Hosts
Your SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) host is named "smtp.vineyard.net" or "mail.vineyard.net" take your pick, they are the same machine.
- You are essentially done. You might want to examine the other settings. While most are useful, the above will suffice to get everything working correctly.
